Gyroscope in Fullscreen mode

I've noticed that on mobile devices, only the VR mode (with stereoscopic viewports) seems to work with the gyroscope. I don't know if I'm missing a setting somewhere, but I can't seem to make this work. Would it be possible to implement a fullscreen mode that operates just like the VR mode, but with only one viewport, in order to use the device in your hand and explore each pano by moving the phone? Similar to how 360º videos work on youtube.

I'm also wondering if there is a way to get VR mode to work on a mobile device. Have been trying to get it to work for several days with no luck. Thanks.
